Study: Dove hunt won't help state
Published June 22, 2006. Lansing State Journal.

Opponents of mourning dove hunting Wednesday sought to refute claims that a hunting season will give a boost to Michigan's economy.

The Humane Society commissioned a study by economists Jennifer Fearing and Donald Garlit. They conclude that a mourning dove hunting season will not bring significant new spending.

"Those who do choose to engage in the dove shooting season will do so instead of other forms of hunting or other recreational activities," Garlit said in a statement.

Voters will decide in November whether to permit mourning dove hunting.
