Tabor "Honored" to be on Cruel List Published November 15, 2004.
By Hugh MdDiarmid Jr. Detroit Free Press. State representative honored by 'cruel' title from group She's unusual. She's tenacious. Now, she's cruel. State Rep. Susan Tabor, R-Delta Twp., was named one of the nation's top 10 cruelest state legislators last month by Humane USA, an animal welfare political action committee. Tabor is the force behind opening a limited trial hunting season for Michigan's mourning doves. "Tabor actually cried tears of joy at the thought that hunters would finally be able to gun down these tiny, gentle birds -- a pathetic legacy for a pathetic lawmaker," a Humane USA statement reads. Tabor, long used to the slings and arrows of animal welfare activists, was pleased. "I consider it an honor to be on this list," Tabor told Lansing's MIRS news service last week. By Hugh McDiarmid Jr. She loves doves, too: On the grill with bacon Tabor the Tactful, part two: Lapeer County resident Pam Alleman wrote state Rep. Susan Tabor to protest dove hunting and pending legislation that could make it easier to add hunting seasons for animals that currently are protected. Alleman asked the Delta Township Republican whether she had "ever watched a dove build a nest and ... hatch their young ..." Tabor's reply: "Yes, I know. Have you ever watched a dove fall from the sky after you've shot it? Have you ever tasted them after wrapping them with bacon and lightly grilling them? Let me guess. You don't eat meat, right?" For the record, Alleman does eat meat. Just not dove. No word on whether Tabor likes crow. By Hugh McDiarmid Jr. |
